June 1, 2010 We Run Bowling Green!!
|
Hardrock MMA Bowling Green May 8th
8 wins and 0 loses. 4 wins by submission, and 4 wins by TKO. All the fights ended in groundwork.
Big John Centers gobbled up his opponent took him down and opened up the night with a dominating
Americana armlock finish!! Next Laith Henke matched up with a super athletic and power cat. After
getting rocked Laith came back to take his opponent down and dominate the positions throughout the
fight before securing the arm in gullotine and forcing the tap. Karate Dave Newton took his opponent
down, mounted and beat the brakes off of em. Brandon Herrington won by tap out due to strikes.
Tyler Young won a very tough fight against a much improved Prince Speights. The first half of round
1 was all Tyler but Prince came on in the second half of round 1 and ended the round mounted. In
round a clinch ensued and tyler was able to jump to triangle from the single leg defense. Securing
the submission for the win. Ron Rountree won by strikes from top of half guard. It wasn't pretty but
he got the job done. Mike Garms was in a slug fest with a very game and experienced Josh Franklin.
The strikes went back and forth with Mike wining the exchanges. Mike took Josh down and unloaded some
big strikes causing hardrock to stop the fight. In the main event Ashcon Karbasi double legged his
opponent, dominated and improved position until securing the mata leao choke for the win!! This was
the first time the team was unleashed on Bowling Green!! Very Impressive performance for sure!!

June 1, 2010 TJ Barber improves to 2-0!!
|
April 18th
TJ Barber won his second professional fight last night in Dayton, Ohio. TJ fought Steven
Mudlrow from Team Vision of Cinci. Muldrow is a great wrestler, and new blue belt in BJJ
having traveled to Brasil to train. In fact, he apparently just got back last week from over
a month in Brazil. The fight was very close. Muldrow opened up the first with a takedown and
landed a few punches through Barber's guard. Then Barber went for a heel hook and nearly
finished it. Barber come up and passed Muldrow's guard and worked strikes and 1 close armbar
attempt before the round ended. The second frame featured some striking before a ground scramble
insued. Muldrow went to attack Barber's back and Barber reversed the position ending up in
Muldrow's guard. Barber worked short strikes and big elbows to Muldrow's ribs. The round ended
with both of them circling and striking. Round 3 featured about 3:30 of striking. Barber circled
and landed some good kicks to Muldrow's lead leg. Barber also countered with some very hard punches
to Muldrow's head. toward the end of the round Muldrow shot for a takedown and Barber sprawled well
and punished Muldrow with submarine punches and shots to the rib. Muldrow eventually turned the
corner only to be placed in TJ's guard and quickly placed in a kimura. Barber twisted the arm badley
and when Muldrow refused to tap he transitioned to the back and finished the mata leao with 10 seconds
left. Barber continues to improve and after moving to E-town recently everyone can expect an awesome
transformation in the next year.

April 15, 2010 Hardrock MMA E-town March 20th
|
We had 5 guys fight this night and all looked impressive. James "Birdman"
Brasfield started the night off with a 2nd round knockout over a game opponent.
Ashcon took his opponent down, passed to mount and knocked him unconscious with
some really hard punches from the mount. Bart Smith double legged his opponent,
took the back and applied the rear naked choke. Jesse Stover fought Justin
Gamble for the middleweight title. Jesse took him down passed, mounted and
basically pounded on Gamble through most of the first round. Gamble weathered
the storm and came back to secure the straight ankle lock forcing Jesse to tap.
With only a few months of training Jesse is looking better and better in the
cage each outing. Look for big things from him in the future. TJ Barber made
his pro debut. He opened up with some sharp striking, a big double leg and moved
to the back mount. TJ controlled his opponent and eventually secured the "mata leao"
choke. 4-1 on the night.

Chad Corvin vs Joey "Mexicutioner" Beltran. UFC 113 Montreal Canada, May 8th. Corvin is
Training Hard and Ready to KTFO!
Yahoo Sports:
http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=mmajunkie-Corvin_Beltran_UFC113&prov=mmajunkie&type=lgns
In the Meantime this is what we are getting from Beltran: "We're definitely not going to be
in Kentucky anymore and he’s not going to have someone in front of him wearing jeans and a
wifebeater. He’s going to have a legit fighter in front of him, we’re going to see what this
kid is made of" Beltran said.
As Mooney says "The wheel that squeaks the loudest, gets the grease." So keep squeaking Beltran
and we'll keep training.

February 11, 2010 Hardrock MMA Shepardsville Kentucky
|
We had 3 fighters fight Saturday night in Hardrock MMA Shepardsville. The new and improved
James "Birdman" Brasfield debuted last night and won in convincing fashion with some tight
clinch work and accurate inside striking to secure the TKO win. Paul Tipton squared off with
James Douglas of 4Seasons (Lexington). It was great action. Paul landed some head kicks and
was winning the striking. When the fight went to the ground it was back and forth. Douglas
secured Paul's back late in the 1st round and finished the Mata Leao with 5 seconds left.
Great fight and always great to compete with 4Seasons which is the original professionally
ran MMA Team in Kentucky and has produced tooooo many champions to even count.
TJ Barber squared off in a rematch with Phil White. The first installment featured good back
and forth action with striking, takedowns and groundwork. White managed to snag TJ's arm and
forced him to tap. This match-up was much different. We had a specific game plan to stand up
and use our superior striking and strength to keep the fight standing and win there. Barber
showed great crisp striking and maturity to stick to the game plan. The fight went to all 5
rounds with Barber just a step ahead in the striking. White was unable to get the fight to
the ground and burned precious energy with several failed attempts. Nonetheless he moved
forward the entire time with Barber using good footwork and landing dozens of leg kicks and
hand combinations. Very good fight and very competitive. These two guys showed skill and heart
that you don't see in many pro fights. Congrats to both guys.

January 28, 2010 Sunday Class in E-town January, 24th
|
What a great class in E-town Sunday. In addition to the regular group of assassins and
killers, UFC vet Dan Christison came down and brought 5 of his students. Brandon Kessinger,
Robin "Funky" Friedley, and Mike Baskis came up from Bowling Green. Joe Baize"ambo" came up
from Leg Lock City. The room was banging with nothing but meat eaters. It was Darwinism
(Survival of the Fittest) in it's most natural form. What a class!!

We recently competed in the Tri-State BJJ Open in Union, Kentucky. Dustin Ware puts on a
great event and it's always organized and professional. Our Team 1 for the Tri-State BJJ Open
was composed of Owensboro, E-town, Bowling Green, Central City, and Hazard Academies combined to send a very
impressive 35 competitors!! We took home 20 medals with some great individual performances.
The tournament was huge and competition was very stiff. I think we all learned a lot and
competition can be important for development. Great job everyone!!
