In June of 2004 I trained in Gorlitz, Germany with the Gorlitz Judo club. Here, two members of the club demonstrate an ankle pick with a Tani O Toshi finish.
Lars Stastny in the blue gi squares off with Stephan. Lars steps back with his right leg and pulls the lapel.
Stephan follows Lars by stepping forward with his left leg. Lars is already reaching down with his left arm to catch the ankle as Stephan places the foot on the ground.
Now that Lars has the foot firmly gripped and lifted from the mat, he steps forward and behind Stephan with his right leg. This is a very large step with the right leg.
Lars finishes the Tani O Toshi by lifting the leg high, pulling the lapel down
with his right arm, and clipping the support leg with his right leg reaping from
behind. Notice that Lars does not place his foot on the mat but he is driving
through Stephan`s leg with his righ leg.
Here Stephan has Josh in Kesa Gatame.
Josh in the blue gi turns into Stephan as much as possible.
Now Josh throws his arm and legs to his left just as he would if he were taking a fall to his left side.
Here you can see that Josh has turned all the way to the other side now.
With the energy Josh produces by turning hard to his left side he loads Stephan onto his chest with his arm.
Continuing with the motion Josh throws Stephan over his left shoulder to the at.
Now Josh establishes the Kuzure Kesa Gatame.
2 x World Champion Baixinho demonstrates a sweep from the guard with
Professor Robson Machado.
Here Robson (white gi) has placed his right arm under Baixinho`s left leg to his belt and is attempting to pass the guard. Baixinho knows this and has reached to Robson`s belt in preparation.
Robson now backsteps over Baixinho`s leg to pass.
Baixinho uses Robson`s momentum against him and does a simple roll backwards as he pulls the belt grip down and rolls on top of Robson.
Baixinho rolls straight on top and establishes the knee on the belly position.
